Why people stick by scandal-plagued pastors

Good article.

I guess what bothers me the most about all church scandal articles is the lack of talk about restoration. Doesn’t anyone care about these souls? Granted, they took advantage of their power—and I do believe that God will take that into consideration in judgment—but aren’t we all trying to get to eternity together?

What strikes me as what’s truly happening at New Birth regardless of the truth, is that a man is trying desperately to hang on to his power. That’s sad. Paul talks about finding God’s power in our weakness. That’s real power. Even if we have to swim through the nasty slime of sin to have our weaknesses revealed, if God’s power is waiting for us on the other side, isn’t that worth going through the process? What if this guy had instead said, “Yep, guilty, I need help. And I don’t need to minister here while I get help.” What could God pour into him? What could he replace all that money with? Maybe the power of God, or something?

What are your thoughts on the subject?
