People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
—Mark 10:13-16
I look forward to Sunday mornings because I get the opportunity to see God at work. I help my wife Sharon teach a class of toddlers who God is. We use puzzles, songs, bibles, mirrors, toy flowers, bees, and ladybugs. We give those little guys an hour and a half of our lives but they give us so much more. They give us hope that God hasn’t given up on human beings yet. When you see the recognition in their eyes that someone greater exists than themselves and that someone planned and created all they see and experience, it’s a mystical moment of transition. We’ve told HIS story and there is acceptance and agreement.
If you don’t work in kids’ ministry, do yourself a favor and get plugged in somewhere. Let the little children see Jesus, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Be reminded of awe and faith and acceptance and I promise you’ll begin to see God, creation, and his plan in a whole new light.
